One night, in early 2012, Rob Karlovich was watching a television show about returning vets from Afghanistan. What immediately struck him was how young the returning vets were and how many of them were physically wounded. No longer could they participate in the daily activities that were once the norm for them. More often than not, their homes would need to be modified to accommodate their needs to perform everyday tasks. The realization bothered Rob.
“They put themselves in harm’s way, they got injured, and they came back, and basically, it seemed like ‘too bad for you,’” Rob recalls. Unless someone did something about it, Rob realized many were never going to be able to stand without needing to focus on ensuring they don't fall when using "upright" mobility devices.
Rob began thinking of possible solutions and soon added the LifeGlider to his patent portfolio.
More than 25% of all adults over 65 fall at least once every year. And 20% of all falls result in serious injury. Further, because of the fear that sets in, those who fall are more likely to fall again.
Our goal is to reduce those falls by giving people the confidence to know they won't fall. So that they'll walk more and get stronger. Some may even regain enough strength so they can walk safely without a walking aid.
